Vector Processing Modes
When you import a vector file (SVG, DXF, or vector PDF), you can choose a vector mode that tells Light Lane how to interpret and output the artwork.

The four modes
Line / Stroke
Follows the path geometry as lines, tracing the edge or stroke of each shape without filling it.
Good for:
- line art and outlines
- borders and frames
- signatures and handwriting
- technical drawings from CAD software
Fill
Engraves closed shapes as solid filled areas.
Good for:
- logos and icons
- bold shapes and silhouettes
- anything where you want solid filled regions
Fill + Outline
Combines a filled engraving pass with an additional edge pass around the filled shape.
Use this when you want both the filled area and a defined border, which can give stronger contrast or a cleaner finish at the edges.
Preserve Appearance
Interprets the vector based on how it looks visually, respecting both fills and strokes as defined in the original file.
Use this for mixed artwork where both fill and stroke matter and you want the output to match the source file as closely as possible.
Choosing a mode
| If you want... | Use... |
|---|---|
| Path lines only | Line / Stroke |
| Solid filled areas | Fill |
| Filled areas with an edge pass | Fill + Outline |
| Output that matches the source file appearance | Preserve Appearance |
If you are not sure, choose the mode that matches the look you want and check Preview.
