Connection problems

Light Lane does not show my laser

  1. Click Connect in the top bar
  2. Click the refresh button inside the Laser Devices dropdown
  3. If the laser still does not appear, try Advanced: Raw Port Picker
  4. Check whether your port appears in the raw port list

If the dropdown says No laser devices found. Check USB connection., check the cable, make sure the laser is powered on, and try a different USB port on your computer.

The laser appears but will not connect

  • Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable
  • Click the refresh button in the dropdown
  • Try Advanced: Raw Port Picker and select the port manually

The laser disconnects during a job

If the connection drops unexpectedly, check the USB cable and power to the machine. A loose or faulty cable is the most common cause.

Import problems

A PDF will not import

Light Lane shows a message like PDF Cannot Be Imported when it cannot convert the file into usable vector paths.

Common fixes:

  • Export the file as SVG from your design app. SVG is the most reliable format for vector artwork.
  • Convert text to outlines or paths before exporting
  • Remove embedded images from the PDF if possible
  • Make sure the PDF is not encrypted or password protected

Artwork looks wrong after import

  • For vector files, try a different vector processing mode in the sidebar. See Vector Processing Modes.
  • For images, use the image adjustment tools in Edit Image to correct the image before generating. See Image Processing Modes.
  • If using a PDF, try exporting as SVG from your design app and reimporting.

A DXF file does not import correctly

Light Lane converts DXF files to SVG during import. Complex or non-standard DXF files may not convert cleanly. Try exporting a simpler version from your CAD software.

Preview problems

Preview is slow

Lower Preview Quality (All Modes) in Settings > General. The Low (Fast) setting is significantly faster at the cost of some visual detail.

The Always use SVG preview when available setting can show more detail on some jobs but may be slower on large or complex ones.

The preview does not reflect my latest changes

Generate again. After changing settings or artwork, the previous generated output is stale. The Preview tab always shows the last generated output, not the current canvas state.

Placement problems

Artwork goes outside the intended area

  • Define a safe area in Template Editor to mark the usable boundaries
  • Use Framing (Low-Power Outline) to trace the job outline on the real material before running
  • Check Preview and compare the position against the work area boundary

In some template workflows, Light Lane warns about artwork overflow before generating.

Supported file types

Light Lane supports these formats for import:

  • Images: PNG, JPG, JPEG, BMP
  • Vector: SVG, DXF, PDF

DXF and PDF files are converted to SVG during import. SVG is the most reliable option for vector artwork. PDF import may fail for complex, encrypted, or image-heavy files.

App updates

Light Lane shows update notifications when a new version is available. You may see:

  • Update available
  • Update now
  • Downloading update...
  • Installing update...
  • Update failed

If an update fails, restart the app and try again. If the problem persists, download the latest version from the Light Lane website.
